Almost everyone will need surgery in their lifetime. However, 5 billion people (out of the 8 billion worldwide) do not have access to safe, affordable surgical and anaesthesia care when needed.

  • Of all procedures each year, only 6% take place in the world’s poorest countries, where over 1/3 of the population lives.
  • Access is worst in low-income and lower-middle-income countries, where 9/10 do not have access to basic surgical care.
  • Every year, 81 million people will face catastrophic expenditure due to the actual surgery &/or non-medical costs associated with surgery.

Join us at this year’s Global Surgery Forum/spotlight to hear from Ohana One co-founder Dr. David Kulber on how innovation is helping transform surgical care worldwide.

From treating burn patients in Mozambique—where, at the time, only three plastic surgeons served a country of 30 million—to pioneering augmented reality and remote mentorship, Ohana One is redefining surgical education and building long-term capacity in underserved regions, from Mozambique … to Greenland.

Ohana One Documentary

In 2022, Ohana One was joined by a team of documentary filmmakers, including Ohana One Board Members, director Jay Roach, cinematographer Bill Pope, and documentarian Sharon Oreck during a surgical outreach trip to Mozambique.

It was their first expedition since the COVID-19 pandemic imposed travel restrictions. For three years prior, the Surgical Sight Smart Glass Program has enabled Ohana One mentors to maintain contact with local mentee surgeons in Mozambique, providing ongoing training. This trip was the first time they were able to work in person again safely.
