Description

As medical robotics continues to revolutionise modern healthcare, ensuring trustworthiness is critical for its safe and effective adoption, particularly in surgical robotics. To gain the confidence of surgeons, patients, and healthcare stakeholders, trustworthy medical robots must meet rigorous standards of safety, security, reliability, explainability, ethics, and regulatory compliance.
This workshop aims to bring together experts from academia, industry, and healthcare to discuss the latest advances, challenges, and future directions in developing and deploying trustworthy surgical robots. By fostering interdisciplinary dialogue, the workshop will highlight novel approaches to enhancing trustworthiness in areas such as advanced digital technologies, AI-driven decision-making, human-robot collaboration, data privacy, cybersecurity, and regulatory frameworks.

Proposed Topics

  • Safety and Reliability: Fail-safe mechanisms, validation, and real-time system monitoring.

  • AI and Explainability: Transparent and interpretable algorithms for decision-making in surgical-tasks.

  • Human-Robot Collaboration: Enhancing surgeon trust and control through intuitive interfaces and feedback systems.

  • Advanced Digital Technology in Medical Robotics: Augmented Reality (AR) and Virtual Reality (VR) have been making significant strides in medical robotics, providing new opportunities for improving surgical precision, training, patient outcomes, and collaboration.

  • Cybersecurity and Data Privacy: Securing patient data and robotic systems from threats.

  • Integrating Telemedicine with Medical (Surgical) Robotics: transforming healthcare by enabling surgeons to perform complex procedures remotely, enhancing access to surgical expertise, and improving patient outcomes, thus paving the way for innovative surgical solutions.

  • Operating Protocols for Mixed Teams: These protocols between human-robot, remote and in-room surgeons are critical to ensuring patient safety, efficiency, and successful outcomes.

  • Global Perspectives on Regulation: The increasing adoption of medical robots worldwide has necessitated robust regulatory frameworks to ensure patient safety, ethical considerations, and the effective deployment of this advanced technology.

  • Ethics and Regulatory Compliance: Addressing accountability and equitable patient outcomes and streamlining certification and approval processes.

  • Future Trends: Opportunities for innovation, including adaptive and personalised surgical robots.
